The Somali Presidential Candidates on August 20, 2012 in Mogadishu, Somalia
Only about half the number of candidates from the preliminary list of candidates came finally through. Women or representatives of minority groups still stand no chance in Somalia.
The following 25 candidates from the three major ethnic groups have been confirmed to be eligible to stand in the presidential election, while last minute wranglings are going on, deals are cut and candidates opt out.
By lunchtime on 10th September 2012 the voting still hadn’t started and the officials retreated for a break.
The 22 candidates presently standing are listed as per gender and academic qualification and then in alphabetical order.
